2017: A year of great strides

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give back.” This famous quotation by Winston Churchill pretty much sums up our 2017.

When we reflect on our year, we are extremely proud to have been a part of so many transactions – we have been trusted to help so many families find their new home and we have sold many beautiful homes to new members of our community. We are so grateful for the amazing opportunities we have taken part in and the new clients we have welcomed, whom we now consider friends.

We are also honored and humbled to have been named the No. 1 realtors in San Carlos on community website Nextdoor. It’s been a year of big strides when it comes to real estate and a steady and healthy year in our personal lives.

But this year has been a tough one in our world. And while we have been enjoying our peace and happiness at home, we both felt there was far too much hurt abound. There have been mass-shootings, fires and other natural disasters that have devastated communities around the globe.

As we entered the very beginning of the holiday season, our hearts were heavy. The days of dropping off harvest pumpkins in the fall and then festive pine wreaths before Christmas were clouded by a larger need. We realized that our time and money could be better spent helping some of these groups of people get back on their feet.

After all, this season is about the hearts that we touch and the care that we show.  So with great pride, we provided monetary support for Unidos por Puerto Rico, the Hurricane Harvey Relief, Las Vegas Victim Fund, U.S. Virgin Island Relief Fund, and the Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch in Napa.

We also aided in additional efforts including gathering goods for the North Bay fire victims, and even helped a dear friend in his effort to collect bikes for North Bay kids who might have lost theirs in the fire.

As an agency, we took giving a step further. Instead of a lavish holiday party, the agents at Dwell Realtors collectively made it a mission to help our local families too. Dwell partnered with Family Connections and Toys R Us to make this Christmas special for 17 local families. Our agents gathered at Toys R Us in Redwood City in a predawn shopping celebration where each agent was able to lead a less fortunate family around the toy store and purchase everything on their list.

The presents were taken back to Dwell, wrapped and will be delivered to these families so that they can be given to family members on Christmas Day.

This experience was powerful on so many levels. It was so rewarding to see how our team can bring about such positive sentiment. It was also heartwarming to know that these families might enjoy their holiday a bit more with a little less financial stress.

While our agency still enjoyed a holiday party, we did it on a more modest scale. However, we had much more than just real estate success to toast to. Dwell, as a family, has brightened the lens through which we look at the world and how we can make a difference in it – not just by selling and buying homes.
